There are different methods of marketing and branding, such as print ads, TV commercials, radio spots, outdoor billboards, portfolio books, pop-up stores, and social media campaigns. In this digital age, online marketing can reach the most people in a short period of time.
The reasons are as follows. First, online marketing is not restricted by locations and time: if you are sleeping in California, people in Asia are just starting their days. Second, the emerge of user-generated content makes people get more involved in liking, commenting, and sharing online information. The nature of social media is online interaction: people interact with their friends, families, and fans (for YouTubers, Instagrammers, bloggers, and other kinds of social influencers or micro social media celebrities) through sharing, forwarding, or “@” the people they want to interact with, thus generating what we called electronic word-of-mouth. Functionally, as a content creator, this drives traffic to the information you want to deliver to the public thus reaching more people, not only in your area but around the world. Finally, consuming social media is the new way most people especially millennials and generation Z spending their leisure time. Imagine you are on a lunch break at work or a study break between classes. The first thing you would do probably is to check your phone to see whether there are new messages people send you through social media. This new way of living surrounded by social media makes online marketing the most effective way regarding reaching more people in a shorter period of time.
Online marketing provide you the platform, however, whether you would succeed or whether people want to share your content or not is another story. The internet platform provides easy access not only to you but everyone, and therefore immense competition is out there. So what do we do? First, you have to let people find you and this means you need a website. Whether you are a fashion blogger, a food critic, an aspiring model, a boutique store, a denim brand, a vegan restaurant, etc. a website that truly represents you: who you are and your work with detailed information, is where people will go if they are interested in getting to know you better. Next, you have to make your content interesting: on one hand, your audiences would either get more interested in your brand and share your content with their friends, or lose interest and leave; on the other hand, if your content has good quality, your site has bigger chances of being ranked top by google algorithm. All things considered, the value of developing a good-quality and interesting website is tremendous.
